About Velvet


Velvet began her food writing career after years of learning to cook.  She’s still searching for the best roasted marshmallows out there.  I sat down with Velvet to find out what brings her to the kitchen.

What makes you an authority on food?

I eat, therefore I am.

Why choose to write about food?

I like to write about my passions, which include eating a great meal someone else cooked for me.  This way, I live vicariously through my work.

Do you cook?


Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself relaxing in my remodeled kitchen.

List the top ten items in your refrigerator.

Dijon, honey, southwestern, stone ground, and classic mustard.  Avacadoes for guacamole, salsa, celery, carrots and mini colored peppers.  It’s a party in there.

Do you have a staple in your fridge that you can’t live without?

I like to commemorate Alexander Flemming by always keeping some mold growing on the bottom of my fridge.  He’s the best inventor out there and I’m damned grateful.  Otherwise, we’d all be dead.

  1. If I didn’t know any better, I would say that the letters you receive sound like they are from you. However, even though I DO no better, they still sound that way. Oddly enough, now I think I’m starting to sound like you as well. Is this some kind of cruel joke perpetrated on us by the food that we have so cruelly subjugated?
